MARTIAL ARTS QUOTES

Martial Arts Quotes That Have Inspired My Journey
For more than 32 years, Tai Chi has been an important part of my life. Along the way, I've collected quotes that have challenged me, encouraged me, and shaped the way I think about discipline, perseverance, balance, and living with purpose.
Some come from martial artists and Tai Chi masters. Others come from athletes, authors, philosophers, and people from completely different walks of life. Although they don't all speak about martial arts directly, each one has taught me something that has stayed with me.
I originally began collecting these quotes for myself, but over time I realized I wanted to preserve them for my sons, my family, and anyone who might one day wonder what inspired my journey. In many ways, this page is more than a collection of quotes. It's a collection of the ideas that helped shape my life.
Today, I'm sharing them with you in the hope that one of these quotes encourages you on your own journey, just as they have encouraged me on mine. Every person who visits Tai Chi Daily has their own unique journey. My hope is that one of these quotes inspires you to keep moving forward on yours.
If you enjoy this collection, I invite you to explore the rest of Tai Chi Daily. You'll find articles, cartoons, inspiration, and a supportive community of people who believe that consistent practice can change lives. Whether you're just beginning or have practiced for decades, you're welcome here.

There's a Hole in My Sidewalk a poem by Portia Nelson
Chapter 1
I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost… I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter 2
I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend that I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in this same place. But, it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter 3
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in … it's a habit … but, my eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.
Chapter 4
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.
Chapter 5
I walk down another street.

Me: God, can I ask You a question?
God: Sure Me: Promise You won't get mad?
God: I promise
Me: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?
God: What do u mean?
Me: Well, I woke up late
God: Yes
Me: My car took forever to start
God: Okay
Me: at lunch, they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait
God: Hmmn
Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call.
God: All right Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn't work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?
God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.
Me (humbled): OH
God: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.
Me: (ashamed)
God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.
Me (embarrassed): Okay
God: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.
Me (softly): I see
God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.
Me: I'm Sorry God
God: Don't be sorry, just learn to Trust Me…. in All things, the Good & the bad… And don't doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.
Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, Thank You for Everything today.
God: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I Love looking after My Children…

One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testing's. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.

If there is no response, no feed-back, anger dissipates. Yielding may hurt the ego, but the ego has no place in Tai Chi."
