TAI CHI MAGAZINE

What happened to Tai Chi Magazine?

Tai Chi Magazine

One of my favorite magazines for Tai Chi information and news was Tai Chi Magazine. For several years, I was a bi-monthly subscriber and always looked forward to receiving and reading the latest issue. There were six issues published each year.

After discontinuing my home subscription, I would often go to my local Barnes & Noble, order a cup of Starbucks coffee, sit down, and read the latest issue of Tai Chi Magazine.

I always found the magazine insightful and inspiring.

I especially enjoyed reading the stories about how and why people began their Tai Chi journeys. That was my favorite part of the magazine. I would often think that one day I would share my own Tai Chi journey and submit an article to be published in Tai Chi Magazine.

Unfortunately, that opportunity never came.

Tai Chi Magazine and Marvin Smalheiser

Marvin Smalheiser was the founder, publisher, and editor of Tai Chi Magazine. He passed away on October 21, 2016.

For nearly 40 years, Tai Chi Magazine served the Tai Chi community, beginning in 1977 and continuing through 2016.

The magazine featured informative articles for both beginners and advanced Tai Chi practitioners. It helped keep readers informed about the Tai Chi community and included interviews, biographies of Tai Chi masters, training information, and articles about different styles of Tai Chi, including Yang, Chen, Sun, Wu, and Hao.

For those interested in finding old issues of Tai Chi Magazine, back issues can sometimes be found for sale on eBay and other used-book and magazine marketplaces.

Marvin Smalheiser Legacy with Tai Chi

Much of Marvin Smalheiser's writing has been preserved in the book Marvin Smalheiser Legacy with Tai Chi.

The book is a collection of Smalheiser's writings from Tai Chi Magazine, covering the years from its beginning in 1977 through 2016.

Sharing Our Tai Chi and Qigong Journeys

The stories about how people discovered Tai Chi were always my favorite part of Tai Chi Magazine. I believe there is something we can learn from each person's journey.

That is something I hope we can continue here at Tai Chi Daily.

I invite Tai Chi and Qigong practitioners of all styles to share their inspirational stories with our community. Whether you have practiced for many years or are relatively new to the journey, your experience may encourage someone else to begin—or inspire another practitioner to continue.

If you would like your Tai Chi or Qigong journey to be considered for publication on Tai Chi Daily, please contact me and share your story.

Hopefully, by sharing our experiences, we can continue to encourage and support one another on our shared path.

Your journey, our shared path.™
